From Scholarship to Mission: Vanesa’s Story

Through Hartland, Vanesa’s teaching gift became a missionary calling—opening doors for evangelism, discipleship, and Christ-centered education in South America.

HWhen Vanesa G. Esteche received a scholarship through Hartland’s Missionary Training Fund, she could not have known how deeply it would shape the direction of her life. What began as an invitation to study and prepare for missionary service became a calling that carried her from Argentina to full-time ministry in South America.

Vanesa shares that Hartland helped her move from being an English teacher to becoming a trained Bible instructor, equipping her to unite her teaching gifts with the mission of sharing Christ. Today, she serves with Vida Plena Ministry in Oxapampa, Peru, where she is using language education as a bridge for evangelism, discipleship, and leadership development.

Her work includes co-leading a virtual English small group connected with Villa Unión English Church, where participants from across Latin America grow in both language skills and spiritual fellowship. She also trains young leaders to see English not merely as a professional skill, but as a tool for witnessing and global mission.

In addition, Vanesa is involved in faith-based educational outreach through “White Pedagogy,” an approach rooted in biblical principles and the Spirit of Prophecy. Through this work, families—including non-Adventist families—are being introduced to God’s Word, Christian education, and a Bible-based lifestyle.

One of the most meaningful parts of her ministry is her English fluency coaching program, which combines language learning with Christian character development, prayer, Bible study, and health principles. According to her report, about 30% of her current students are not Adventists, and many are becoming more open to spiritual conversations through this natural, relationship-centered approach.

Although Vanesa has now completed her service commitment connected to the MTF scholarship, her mission has not ended. She has chosen to continue as a full-time missionary through a mission-based entrepreneurship model, using English and Spanish coaching as both an evangelistic “entering wedge” and a way to sustain her ministry.

Her story is a living example of what the Missionary Training Fund makes possible. A scholarship does not simply pay for education. It helps prepare workers who carry the gospel into real communities, serve with practical skills, and touch lives one person at a time.
